FairWater Foster Handpump Projects

FairWater rehabilitates broken down handpumps in Africa.

FairWater Rehabilitation Projects

Angola 2006: Rehabilitated with the durable FairWater BluePump

Over 350.000 handpumps were installed over the last 25 years in Africa, but a recent UNICEF study indicated that more than 150.000 handpumps (average cost 20.000 US$ each...) are abandoned and still counting....

The major problems being too many breakdowns, no spare parts, no expertise for maintenance and too high cost of repairs. People loose confidence.

Africa is slowly turning into a handpump graveyard...

>> 100.000.000 US$ per year is waisted in non-sustainable handpumps...

>> 3.000.000 people per year are loosing their watersupply

Foster handpumps, a new start.

We cannot give all these people a new and better handpump, but we can start making a difference and set an example of how we could do better.

The sustainability of the new BluePump in our projects is secured by a professional Regional Maintenance Team (RMT) that has a contract for maintenance with the community, who requested themselves for the rehabilitation. The RMT installs the BluePump together with the community representatives and is standby in case of any Murphy problems.

In case you want to join us in making a difference, you can support our handpump rehabilitation projects in Africa. We developed a better, more sustainable and transparent approach to give these people finally a handpump that càn be maintained at low cost, using the reliable and durable FairWater BluePump.

For more info on our sustainable projects go to our website www.watsan.org and open the section "FairWater Projects" in the menu on the left and select the country and community that you want to help.

We recently started new Foster projects in Burkina Faso, Tanzania and in the Central African Republic, where we have already over 200 requests to replace broken pumps.

JoinThePipe & FairWater
FairWater teams up with JoinThePipe.org to implement together handpump rehabilitation projects in Africa. JoinThePipe sponsors can buy a typical water bottle to be filled up with tap-water in stead of using plastic water bottles. In most Western capitals tap water is of a high quality and can be perfectly used in stead of water in plastic bottles. Besides, it is also more environmental friendly and cheaper as well.

The JoinThePipe sponsor can have their name or Logo on the blue cap of the pump. One of the first joint projects in Bangui in the Central African Republic is presented below, sponsored by the Nukuhiva shop of Mrs Floortje Dessing in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
