This community of about 150 people only has this simple well with a bucket and a rope for drinking water. Open wells like this are not recommended because objects, sand, and even animals (or even worse: children) can get in the well which creates all kind of problems. This is obvious not a desireable situation. Besides, the family that looks after the well told us that they spend yearly some 75 US$ on repairing and replacing the rope.
During the visit in March 2011 to Gambia to introduce the new project of FairWater / SANEX to have "Clean water here & clean water there", which goes with the promotion of the environmental friendly shower-gel SANEX ZERO%, we visited this community and interviewed about their water situation. We would like therefore to give something back and facilitate a new BluePump for this community. The well will be cleaned and improved and equiped with a BluePump by Swe-Gam.
More pictures soon.
