Completed project: Gambia Mandinari

The community of Mandinari received many years ago two India pumps with funding from Saudi Arabia and for some years, they had a safe water supply nearby and were very happy. However, after some years, these pumps needed more and more costly repairs, sometimes up to 800 Euro. Finally, the families could not afford this anymore and the pump was left broken down and they had to walk again a few kilometers for water, because these pumps were the only safe water supply in this community.

During the visit in March 2011 to Gambia to introduce the new project of FairWater / SANEX to have "Clean water here & clean water there", which goes with the promotion of the environmental friendly shower-gel SANEX ZERO%, we visited a FairWater Bluepump in Kerewan, some 2 kilometers from this location. Were they told us that also the families in Mandinari walk each day these 2 km to the BluePump in Kerewan to get safe water.

Obviously, the people in Mandinari did an urgent appeal to us to also rehabilitate their broken pump, we promised to do so, but we need your help with this.

To show their committed interest, an old man already started to clean the area around the pump.

People in the Netherlands sponsored this rehab projects and the pump is now being replaced by a BluePump.

Before: 2 broken handpumps on this community well in Mandinari, Gambia

After: Rehabilitation of one old pump with the FairWater BluePump. The rehabilitation was done by Swe-Gam.
